Here’s the latest from the tablet market. Acer’s much-awaited dual-screen tablet, the Iconia-6120 Dual-Screen Touchbook, has been made available for pre-sale in North America. The company is pretty excited about it, touting it as “the world’s first and only tablet to offer two touch-enabled 14-inch high-definition widescreen LED backlit LCDs”.

The tablet is powered by the Intel Core i5 processor and runs on Windows 7. The tablet’s 14-inch LCDs are made of ultra-thin Gorilla glass. So, it’s durable and scratch resistant alright. More about the screens? Users can customize the screens letting them watch a video on the top screen, for instance, and also browse their multimedia library on the bottom one; or even view a single webpage across the two displays. The company considers the Acer Ring Control Interface as one of the elements making the difference by rendering navigation by touch ‘simple and intuitive’:

“By placing five fingers in a circular pattern on the bottom display, the Acer Ring appears, providing instant access to favorite applications and features (like including Virtual Keyboard, Gesture Editor, Capture, Webclip, Windows Manager and Device Control). From this point, consumers can use their fingertip or launch the virtual keyboard to change the tablet’s settings, surf the web, capture screen images, post photos and status updates to a social network, watch a movie and more, all in the manner most comfortable and natural to them.”

Featuring on the either side of this ‘Ring’ is a set of Iconia apps, called AppCards. So, you get access to a range of touch-based programs for business or home use, including TouchBrowser, MyJournal, Social Jogger, Scrapbook, TouchPhoto, TouchMusic and TouchVideo.

Here are other key features of the tablet:

  • Clear.fi, Acer’s digital media sharing solution
  • Intel Core i5 Processor with Intel Turbo Boost Technology
  • 4GB of memory and Intel HD graphics
  • Dolby Advanced Audio v3
  • Windows 7 Premium 64-bit
  • USB 3.0 standard
  • Two 2.0 USB ports and an HDMI port are also included.
  • 1.3 megapixel HD webcam
  • Connectivity features include 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi
  • Weight: 6.18 pounds

Priced at $1,199.99, this tablet is available for pre-sale now. It will be available next month at leading retailers in the US and Canada.
