Reports have been doing the rounds that Sony is all set to hold a “business overview and strategy meeting” in Tokyo on January 27. The company is also understood to have confirmed to Joystiq about this. The meeting by itself may not be anything interesting. But we hear, and some sites are swearing by ‘confirmed industry sources’ too, that the company will use the opportunity to unveil the PSP2.

It is believed this will be a closely-guarded affair with only select members of the press expected to attend it. However, there has been no confirmation from Sony about this buzz. Details about the console are sketchy at this point. There has been talk about it for almost a year now. However, what we have is but a handful of unconfirmed tidbits about the proposed console. We may recall:

  1. Images of a ‘PSP2’ prototype were leaked last November
  2. In December, some gave us unconfirmed details of the hardware — it will reportedly have
    • An HD screen
    • With twice as much RAM as a 360 — powerful!
  3. Then we had news that the PSP successor is being developed alongside the PlayStation Phone
  4. The console is likely to be launched later this year
  5. It has been codenamed VITA
  6. Netherrealm Studios and EA are working with the machine.
