Apple has finally announced the iPhone OS 4.0 with many features. Beating all the rumors that are spreading around the Internet, iPhone OS 4.0 included much more features than everyone had expected. iPhone 4.0 will be available to the end users in Summer and the Dev Preview is released today. iPhone OS 4 delivers more than 1500 new API’s for the developers. Some of the API’s in iPhone OS 4 include Calendar access, In-app SMS, Photo Library Access, Quick Look, Full access to still and video camera data, Full map overlays, Accelerate, Image I/O, Date formatters, Performance profiling tools, Draggable map annotations, Carrier Information, Call Event Notification and many more.

The new user features in iPhone OS 4 includes 5x Digital Zoom, Playlists, Tap to focus video, Gift Apps, Spell Check, iPod Out, Web Search Suggestions, Nested Playlists, Wake on Wireless, Places in photos, Home screen wallpaper, File and delete mail search results and Bluetooth keyboards!

iPhone OS 4 mainly features 7 “Tentpole” features which includes Multitasking, Folders, New Mail Features, iBooks, Enterprise, Game Center and iAd. Phone 4.0 OS will be launching on the iPhone 3GS and the iPod Touch 3rd Gen this summer. Sadly the iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G will run many of the new features but can’t do multitasking. Finally the iPhone 4.0 OS is coming to the iPad this Fall.
