Procedure to Manually Update iOS 4 For Windows

  • Connect your iPhone or iPod Touch to your PC
  • Start iTunes if it hasn’t started automatically.
  • From iTunes click on your iPhone or iPod touch from the device list
  • Hold down the Shift key and click on Update button
  • Now browse and select the downloaded iOS 4 firmware update file and click on Open
  • iTunes will do the rest of job to update the firmware to iOS 4.0

Procedure to Manually Update iOS 4 For Mac OS X

  • Connect your iPhone or iPod Touch to your Mac
  • Start iTunes if it hasn’t started automatically.
  • From iTunes click on your iPhone or iPod touch from the device list
  • Hold down the Options key and click on Update button
  • Now browse and select the downloaded iOS 4 firmware update file and click on Open
  • iTunes will do the rest of job to update the firmware to iOS 4.0

It will may take some time for iTunes to complete the updating of your iDevice firmware to iOS 4. During this process do not disconnect your iDevice until the update is completed.

    I am trying to update it manually for my iPhone 3g and I downloaded the necessary files. However, when I go to open to “iOS 4 firmware update file”, there is no IPSW file. It does not exist.
    Please email me back and let me know how to find this file so I can update my phone.

    Wow!Thanks! I have already downloaded the software from somewhere(not from iTunes) but I don’t know how to install it that is why I’m very thankful. Now, I’m currently installing it to my iPod touch 4G :D
