Next Gen iPhone and iPad to Come Without Home Button? iOS 4.3 Switching Gestures to Replace Home Button?
Here is a very interesting news from BGR which says that the next-gen iPhone (iPhone 5) and iPad (iPad 2?) will be loosing the home button. This looks like a hard to believe thing but the report says that Apple employees are already testing iPad and iPhone models with no home buttons in the Apple campus, and it is very much possible to see this new change materialize with the next-gen iPad and iPhone devices set to launch this year.
Apple has just added multitouch gestures for the iPad and iPhone in the latest iOS 4.3 beta which also hints us that there are chances of losing the home button. So instead of button taps, you will use new multitouch gestures to navigate to the home screen and also to launch the app switcher.
But in a related news John Gruber from Daring Fireball says that “These gestures do mean that you don’t have to use the Home button. The physical Home button is impossible to miss”. He also says that the new four-finger gestures in iOS 4.3 developer beta doesn’t really suggest that Apple will remove the Home button from future iDevices. DF reports that the addition of gestures in iOS 4.3 do mean that you don’t have to use the Home button. They are like keyboard shortcuts on the Mac.
