The Dev-Team always happens to be active in coming up with some app or the other to make life easier for jailbreakers. The latest to make the news is Redsn0w 0.9.6rc7. Using this it is possible to boot the jailbroken but tethered iPhone/iPad/iPod touch fast through bypassing some screens usually displayed when using Redsn0w 4.2.1 jailbreak.

Redsn0w is updated and there is “one click” support for tethered 4.2.1 jailbreaks. The usual screens when you use redsn0w to “just boot tethered for now” which are displayed can be bypassed with command lines. Before proceeding install the latest iTunes 10.1.1 version. Redsn0w should be run in XP compatibility mode on Vista and Windows 7.

Follow the steps below to boot with one click:

Windows users:

1. Download Redsn0w 0.9.6rc7 and the iOS 4.2.1 firmware files. Save to a folder on the desktop.
2. Run MS dos prompt with administrator rights.
Type the following command line (change folder name and .ipsw file as may be required)

%homepath%Desktopfolderredsn0w_win_0.9.6rc7redsn0w.exe -j -i %homepath%DesktopfolderiPhone3,1_4.2.1_8C148_Restore.ipsw

For older iPod touch 2G and iPhone 3GS with the old bootrom type

%homepath%Desktopfolderredsn0w_win_0.9.6rc7redsn0w.exe -j -o -i %homepath%DesktopfolderiPhone2,1_4.2.1_8C148a_Restore.ipsw

3. Redsn0w should start now and you simply need to follow the instructions on screen to enter the DFU mode to enable your device to boot in the tethered jailbroken mode.

4. Create a desktop shortcut with the above command line parameters in the Target field. The ios device should then boot in tethered jailbroken state with only one click.

Mac OSX users:

1. Download Redsn0w 0.9.6rc7 and the iOS 4.2.1 firmware files. Save to a folder on the desktop and then start Terminal on OS X.
2. Type the command line (change name of folder and .ipsw file if required)

“open ~/Desktop/folder/redsn0w_mac_0.9.6rc7/redsn0w.app –args -j -i ~/Desktop/folder/iPhone3,1_4.2.1_8C148_Restore.ipsw”

For older iPod touch 2G and iPhone 3GS with old bootrom type

“open ~/Desktop/folder/redsn0w_mac_0.9.6rc7/redsn0w.app –args -j -o -i ~/Desktop/folder/iPhone2,1_4.2.1_8C148a_Restore.ipsw”

4. Redsn0w should start. To enter the DFU mode follow onscreen directions and the iOS device will boot in tethered jailbroken state on just one click.

It is also possible to create a one click executable .command file with AppleScript Editor incorporating the above command lines to boot the iOS device in a tethered jailbroken state with only one click.

This should be a relief from the annoying motions one has to go through everytime the device boots in the tethered mode.
