An obvious shortfall in the iPhone or iPod touch ecosystem is the lack of choice. All you have is a candy bar large touch screen device without an option for a QWERTY version. Some individuals may even refuse to buy one because of the lack of a tactile keyboard embedded.

Now, this is where ThinkGeek comes in with their new “innovation”. They have done something to remedy the situation with the launch of the TK-421 iPhone Case and Flip-Out Keyboard. The TK-421 iPhone Case and Flip-Out Keyboard was invented and designed at ThinkGeek.

The TK-421 would be available be in two versions. One of these flavors is optimized for the iPhone 4 and the other for the iPhone 3GS and possibly the iPod touch. It is also good to know that both of them would keep the iPhone sides and back covered while the touch-screen is in use or while taking calls. Now, when you wish to type on the screen or send an e-mail with a tactile keyboard, you just simply swivel your iPhone up and over to reveal the built-in hidden keyboard at the back of the case. The hinge on the side of the case has a magnetic clasp to keep your iPhone in place when you open or shut it, and it pairs with your iPhone using Bluetooth.

Apart from the keypad, the case would also feature a rechargeable battery that can recharge via USB. And when would it be ready? Sorry you’d have to wait a little. It will start shipping in mid-November for $49.99. ThinkGeek isn’t taking pre-orders just now, so if you would love to know the actual time of availability all you need to do is to sign up for instant notification the minute the TK-421 goes on sale.
