The Acer Liquid Metal has arrived. It’s a latest generation Acer smartphone, equipped with a rounded 3.6-inch display, which that company claims has been “especially studied to grant a truly sensational visualization”. Here’s a look at the device:

The body: The materials selected, like the stainless steel of the battery cover, are solid and resistant and the chrome trims are meant to make it visually appealing. As in the entire Acer Liquid series, this one too comes with LED signals on the upper part of the telephone to notify the user of missed calls, battery status, and incoming messages.

Technical specifications: The device has been designed to enable better navigation and performance.

Acer Liquid Metal Features

  • A Qualcomm 7230 800 MHz processor
  • Android 2.2 (Froyo) that responds at a speed 5 times faster than earlier versions
  • New browser, enabling faster Web surfing, thanks to Flash support and the optimization of the JavaScript engine
  • Wi-Fi n and HSDPA 14.4Mbps connectivity
  • DLNA/UPnP technology, enabling all multimedia content memorized on the smartphone to be shared with your PC, TV or game console
  • Can become a Wi-Fi hotspot for all enabled devices via Liquid Metal 3G connection
  • Multitouch function, making resizing of web pages, photos, or maps easier.

Other features: The handset comes with a host of multimedia features. Here’s a look:

  • Recording videos in HD at 720p (30fps) and watching high-resolution videos in Xvid format
  • Taking photos with the 5MP A/F camera with LED flash, image stabilizer, and face & smile detection technology
  • Dolby Surround technology with the EQ profiles and Dynamic Bass Boost

User interface: Liquid Metal flaunts an Acer interface and the company’s own software. Called Breeze, the new intuitive user interface allows users to view information even when the screen is locked. What’s more, users can view application history and start up their most-used app. They can also customize their homescreen and re-arrange the way they access their favourite apps.

Of the notable software is Acer’s SocialJogger Application that aggregates Facebook and Twitter feeds, allowing users to surf through the updates with the trackwheel, receive updates through a dedicated widget on the homescreen, and even comment or share directly from the interface. In addition, the Acer EasyLink PC free software can enable a protected Internet connection (https).

Using DLNA/UPnP technology, the phone can also provide your PC computer with an Internet connection via USB — useful during traveling or when on vacation.

Variants: The Liquid Metal will be offered in two colors, silver and brown for a suggested price of £299. The brown variation will be available first from mid November with the silver arriving in early December.
