MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) is now available officially to all AT&T customers who owns an iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS. But if you are still using the Original iPhone then you can only view MMS messages you receive using the View my message website as MMS is not available on the original iPhone. AT&T MMS requires iPhone OS 3.1 and a carrier settings update.

Procedure to enable MMS on iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS

  1. Connect your iPhone to the computer and open iTunes.
  2. If you haven’t yet updated to iPhone OS 3.1, then do that first.
  3. Select your iPhone in the Devices list and click “Check for Update”.
  4. Click “Update Settings” when you are prompted to do so.
  5. When the update is complete, you will see a screen with the message “Your iPhone carrier settings were updated successfully”.
  6. Restart your iPhone by holding the power button until “slide to power off” appears. Slide to power off your device. When it is off, press the power button to turn it back on.
  7. After you had restarted your iPhone, you can verify that MMS feature is activated by creating a new text message where you should see a camera icon to the left of the text field.
