Huawei, the largest networking and telecommunications equipment supplier in China has released an affordable Android 2.2 handset called Huawei IDEOS U8150 recently in India. We got a chance to review the IDEOS U8150 and here are the key points which would help you decide a low cost Android handset.

Huawei IDEOS U8150 is powered by Qualcomm MSM7225 chipset that runs at 528MHz and works on Android 2.2 ( Froyo) operating system. Retailed at around Rs 8,000/-, IDEOS U8150 is a perfect phone for those who desire an Android Mobile with quite useful features and impressive user interface.

IDEOS U8150 includes a 2.8 inch capacitive touch screen, touch sensitive keys, a circular navigation pad, call accept and end keys on the front panel as well as volume toggle keys in the side. The device also includes a micro-USB port at the bottom and power button on top, a 3.5mm headset jack on the top-right of the device. The U8150 handset could have been much cooler if the circular navigation pad was replaced with a touch pad or optical trackpad instead. With rounded corners, the phone looks sleek and also comes with back panels in 3 colors (Blue, Purple and Yellow) making it stylish. IDEOS U8150 does not have a Huawei branding on its panel, but instead you will find Google logo below the camera and IDEOS naming on the bottom of the panel.

Other features of IDEOS U8150 include in-built Google Search, Maps, Gmail, GTalk, 3.15 MP camera, Geo-tagging, Adobe Flash support, Accelerometer, Proximity sensor and many more. U8150 also provides unlimited entries and fields, photocalls in the phone book. Having 200 MB internal storage, 256 MB RAM and 512 MB ROM, the memory of U8150 is extendable to 32GB.

Though IDEOS U8150 seems acceptable for the price, its performance is not as great as expected. The user interface sometimes becomes sluggish with the lower screen resolution(240×320). The touch screen looks a little blurry and slows down in little frames while scrolling down the menus. IDEOS U8150 does not have multi-touch capabilities and even the multi-tasking takes greater loading times making the handset slightly off when compared to the other competitor handsets available for the same price in the market.

Android 2.2 is the main key feature of this handset and you can also enjoy predictive text input feature – Swype as in most other Android handsets though the touch QWERTY keypad is small due to the screen resolution. Audio quality of U8150 is impressive. Users get to relish good internet accessibility as this handset supports 3G, Wi-Fi and HSDPA, 7.2 Mbps speed. Coming with utile features and stylish design, Huawei IDEOS U8150 would be a right choice in case you are looking for a moderate Android handset at an affordable price, so give it a try!
