Karbonn k1212 Smartphone priced at Rs.5000, has been launched, targeting the social networking segment, but has failed to live up to its expectations. A Dual-SIM, touch-screen Smartphone with a stylish design, the Karbonn K1212 has a glossy LCD with a metallic black front panel. Most of the buttons are placed on the left and right side of the panel with the metallic steel-finish, select and call function buttons decorating the front panel.

The touch screen menu interface is neat with shortcut icons on the desktop for applications such as FM, Bluetooth, Audio Player and key lock functions. Users can use display transition effects like wave, swirl, turn and scroll. The Java based applications allow the user to access popular social networking platforms like Twitter mobile client, Facebook Mobile. Other tools like Opera Mini Browser and eBuddy are also present in K1212. However, the device comes with quite a few problems that undermine its effectiveness and usability.

Karbonn K1212 Features

  • Full Touch Dual SIM
  • Dual Standby
  • GSM 850/900/1800/1900
  • WAP/MMS and GPRS Class 12
  • MP3 Player
  • Motion Sensor
  • Bluetooth A2DP
  • Voice Recorder and Playback
  • Video Player and Recorder
  • FM Radio
  • Background Sound Changer
  • 3.0 Mega Pixels Camera With Digital Zoom
  • Facebook, Twitter and MSN
  • eBuddy and Opera Mini

To start with, the touch screen is sluggish and sometimes inaccurate. The stylus is handy for navigating small icons and looks sleek and trendy. However, it often fails to register input causing users to try multiple times, which could be annoying. The device also lacks a hardware keypad which could really irritate those who need to send lengthy messages. There is a drop noticed in the audibility and voice clarity when the phone is exposed to background noise. The performance of the Bluetooth is mediocre too with a speed of 466 kbps for the transfer of 5MB file size. The headset performance is decent, but the phone fails to score in terms of video recording and loudspeaker quality. Another problem with the phone is that the Dual-SIM GSM cards cannot be activated and used simultaneously which, in a way defeats the purpose. All in all, Karbonn K1212 is a feature rich phone with inherent defects that do not justify its price tag.
