VirtualBox is a very useful Open Source Software which allows you to run guest OS in your current machine without any changes to the current OS. It is a powerful x86 and AMD64/Intel64 virtualization product which runs on Windows, Linux, Mac OS X and OpenSolaris hosts and supports a large number of guest operating systems including but not limited to Windows (NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista, Windows 7), DOS/Windows 3.x, Linux (2.4 and 2.6), Solaris and OpenSolaris and OpenBSD.

The good thing is that you can now use Portable VirtualBox to run guest operating systems from your USB drive. Portable-VirtualBox is a Portable Wrapper for VirtualBox that allows you to install VirtualBox on a USB drive and can be run on any computer. Once run Portable VirtualBox will install VirtualBox and all the necessary settings are made for you automatically.

Procedure to Install and Run Portable VirtualBox

  • Download Portable VirtualBox creation script[Portable-VirtualBox].
  • Run the executable and extract the files to your USB drive.
  • Go to the Portable-VirtualBox folder and click Portable-VirtualBox.exe
  • Now Select the Options based on your requirements and click “Download installation file of VirtualBox”.
  • Click “OK” to extract the files to the USB drive
  • Run Portable-VirtualBox.exe from your USB drive to start portable version of VirtualBox.
  • Now you can select any OS and run it as a guest OS on your machine.
