Shipments of 11.6-inch MacBooks to Top 400,000-500,000 Units in 2010

Here’s another Apple report from the rumor mills. The Taipei newspaper DigiTimes wants us to believe that Quanta Computer has “landed orders for 11.6-inch MacBooks from Apple”. There is more. The newspaper, also referred to as a rumor-monger by some, reported that shipments of 11.6-inch MacBooks are expected to top 400,000-500,000 units in this year.

This is the second time we are hearing about this. Earlier in July, there was rumor about Apple planning to  launch a smaller version of the MacBook Air. However, the rumors somewhat subsided when Apple did not mention a thing about it at its press event earlier this month. Suddenly, with the DigiTimes report, and even Apple Insider picking on the buzz,  we are left wondering whether these reports actually hold any water.

Meanwhile, Apple watchers are weighing Apple’s options and feel it does not seem probable. However, it’s the second time this rumor is doing the rounds, leading some to wonder if it’s happening for real this time. The MacBook Air is expected to be ideal for professionals on-the-go thanks, what with its featherweight frame and actual physical keyboard. As for the Digitimes report, the only option is to wait and watch.
