Mozilla Labs Raindrop Creates Compelling Messaging Experiences With Open Web Technologies

Written By Sam on 24 October 2009

Mozilla’s Raindrop gives you a new ways to use open Web technologies to create useful, compelling messaging experiences. It helps you to participate in conversations which are in email, on twitter, a friend’s blog or as part of a social networking site. Raindrop uses a mini web server to fetch your conversations from different sources like email, Twitter, Facebook, RSS feeds and intelligently pulls out the important parts that you are interested in.

Raindrop is an open source project and you can participate in the experience by writing extensions that use standard open web technologies like HTML, JavaScript and CSS. Raindrop helps you to access Twitter, IM, Skype, Facebook, Google Docs, Email and all other services that you use from a single window. It also provides a programming interface (API) that helps designers and developers extend the work and create new systems on top of that data. Right now Raindrop is only available for developers.
