iPhone 3G Jailbroken on iPhone OS 4.0 Beta With Multi-tasking Enabled [Video]

Apple released the Developer Preview of iPhone OS 4.0 recently and one of the main features that was introduced in iPhone 4.0 Firmware is “Multitasking”. Multitasking is one of the major feature that many iPhone users are awaiting for. Though multitasking was available earlier it was limited and you need to Jailbreak iPhone for that. One of the major concerns of Apple for adding multitasking is the battery draining. But now with iPhone OS 4 Apple has added Multitasking to iPhone while preserving battery life and performance. Even with iPhone OS 4.0, multitasking is only available for iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 3G. The main reason for not enabling Multitasking in iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G is the resource constraints.

Though Multitasking is not available for iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G because of low processing power and less memory, few developers managed to enable Multitasking for iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G. They were successful in enabling multitasking on iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G by jailbreaking iPhone OS 4.0 and then modifying the N82AP.plist file.

iH8sn0w, DarkMalloc and lilstevie have posted a video showing a Jailbroken iPhone 3G on iPhone OS 4.0 with multi-tasking enabled. Actually no new exploit was used, rather an already Jailbroken iPhone 3G was upgraded in a manner which retained the jailbreak.

iH8sn0w has posted the following reasons for not offering a jailbreak for the beta OS.

  • It cannot restore on a PC, only a Mac can. There is no way to make it run on a PC.
  • Its very very buggy and is meant for developers to test new api’s.
  • It has a 58% success restore rate.
  • It would promote more piracy. Meaning users would illegally download the ipsw and bypass the UDID trap.
