Limera1n Not Available for Mac and Linux Yet, Grapples With Known Issues and Bugs

Written By Sam on 11 October 2010

With the release of GeoHot’s Limera1n, the Apple community now has a jailbreak tool for the latest versions of iOS and beyond. The tool is only available for Windows. However, a Mac and Linux version is “coming soon”. And reports are trickling in about the tool not working; the tool is not free from bugs yet.

Limera1n Known Bugs and Issues

“3GS new bootrom is broken, fix pending
some people need to restart to get the Cydia icon to show up after installing
some people still don’t have windows
Beta iOS versions aren’t supported
uninstall in limera1n app doesn’t work, you can just delete the directory, i need regression testing”

From fresh reports on the jailbreak, it’s understood to be working well to jailbreak iPhone 4 iOS 4.1, iPod Touch 4G iOS 4.1 and iPad. iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G users can use redsn0w to jailbreak iOS 4.1. If Limera1n isn’t working for you, an alternatives for iPhone 3GS Old BootROM users is to use PwnageTool Bundles for iOS 4.1. And Greenpois0n fans suggest iPhone 3GS New BootROM, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G and iPad users should wait for Greenpois0n jailbreak that should release soon.
