Qi, pronounced “chee”, has been dubbed the new universal standard for inductive charging as per the norms of Wireless Power Consortium. This inductive charger will currently work for the Blackberry Curve 8900 from RIM and iPhone from Apple. However, in the near future more smartphones will indeed be added to the list.

The specialty of this inductive charger from Energizer lies in the fact that it could charge up to 3 different devices, all at the same time. The charging accessory includes a USB port for charing other devices along with 2 zones providing inductive charging on the base unit.

According to the Vice President of Marketing for Energizer North America, Jim Olsen, the company believes that the future of charging is certainly headed towards a universal standard. This inductive charger will allow customers to charge their smartphones without the hassles of cords that are annoying for the clutter they create.

This Inductive Charger will be available in the market from October and would cost about $89. The removable Qi sleeve would also be available for the iPhone 3GS while the Qi battery door would be available for the Blackberry Curve 8900.
