Social media dashboard HootSuite has announced that starting at noon on October 13, mobile users will be able to download the full version of HootSuite for iPhone and Android phones for free. BlackBerry and iPad versions are likely to follow soon. HootSuite allows users to manage multiple social networks through one client. The web version of the service comes with lite and premium tags (premium plans starting at $4.99 a month). The mobile app is also available in Full version ($2.99 USD) and Lite (free) versions, but following the latest announcement the good news is the full version will be available for free download in a week’s time.

So, what about those who have already paid $2.99 for the full version of HootSuite mobile? Users who paid for the app will be grandfathered in the new system. So, as the company promises, “you’ll get to keep what you paid for. You purchased HootSuite for the ability to add unlimited social networks to your phone, to view ow.ly stats, and to have an ad-free mobile interface. You’ll get to keep all of these things on your iPhone, even after we make the app free.” So, if you too want to be grandfathered in, you must have a HootSuite account. That’s not all. You must use the latest version of the paid app with your HootSuite account before Oct 13 noon.

But why should one pay if the app is going to be available for free in a few days? Well, probably HootSuite wants ads to feature in the mobile app in the future for non HootSuite Pro users (online). The deal is simple. If you have already paid for the app, but do not hold HootSuite Pro account online, you will get an ad-free experience on mobile because that’s what the app promised when you paid for it in the first place. And for true HootSuite fans, that isn’t a big sum to shell out for an ad-free mobile hooting experience. The good thing is it provides added assurance that they will continue to access features they get at present.
