We have already written that Samsung Galaxy S was rooted and the same code can be tweaked to root other Galaxy S variants- AT&T Captivate, Verizon Fascinate, T-Mobile Vibrant and Sprint Epic 4G. Below is the simple procedure which you can follow if you are interested in rooting your Samsung Galaxy S Mobile.

Procedure to Root Generic Samsung Galaxy S and T-Mobile Vibrant

  1. Download the attached zip (SGH-959 Root Update.zip) and rename it to- “update.zip”
  2. On your device, navigate to Settings > Applications > USB settings and select Mass storage
  3. Plug in your mobile into your computer and select mount USB from your device’s pull-down window
  4. Copy the update.zip to the Internal SD memory
  5. Turn your phone off.
  6. Hold down volume up and volume down while powering on the phone, this should get you to a recovery menu, you may have to try this a few times.
  7. In Recovery menu select ‘Reinstall Packages’ (use vol_down then power to select)
  8. Now your phone will reboot and you have “su+Superuser” and “busybox (/system/xbin/busybox)”
