Nikon has released the Coolpix S8100, a 12.1 megapixel, 10X optical zoom model, designed specifically for shooting night-time images and dimly-lit indoor surroundings. The company claims to have taken particular care to ensure the Coolpix S8100 is able to vividly capture images even in a poorly-lit setting without blurring background details.

The camera is available in three colours: red, black and gold. Its primary features include a back-illumination CMOS image sensor, Expeed C2 image processing engine, face, blink and smile detection properties, in-camera editing functions, 4-way vibration reduction (VR) optical image stabilisation system (with ISO settings upto 3200), scene auto selector, and full HD video (1920 x 1080, 30 fps) with stereo sound.

Of the more technical features, the notable mentions would be the camera’s 102 MB of internal memory, a focus range of 50 cm (normal mode) and 1 cm (macro mode), BSS (Best Shot Selector), a 3-inch LCD display with 921.000 pixels, HDR (high dynamic range) function, SD / SDHC / SDXC card slot, HDMI output, self-timer (2 and 10 sec. duration) and multi-shot 16 (16 frames with a single burst).

In addition, the camera provides optimal flash control according to shooting conditions. In dark surroundings, the camera automatically adjusts shutter speed to suppress blur caused by camera shake. It also allows high-speed continuous shooting at the maximum image size (12M 4000 X 3000). The camera comes with one rechargeable Li-ion battery EN-EL12. An AC Adapter EH-62F is available separately.

Nikon Coolpix S8100 is likely to cost approximately Rs. 15,000-20,000 in the Indian market.
