A week back or so one of my good friends was completely shattered due to some irresponsible web hosting service provider. Due to some technical problems, the service provider cleaned up all their servers, which resulted in loss of all the important data of my friend, who did not have the backup of all the data and had to fore go many months hard work, as the hosting service provider could not help him with the data recovery. The moral of the story (Sorry! its not a Story it happened Really!!) is that you need to choose a reliable web hosting provider rather than falling as a prey to a cheap webhosting provider.

Web services play a key role for any individual who aspire to succeed online. Choosing the best web hosting service can be intimidating task, as each type of web hosting owns a set of pros and cons. There are many companies out there who are selling webhosting plans for less than a dollar every month. If you choose such a plan which may not be reliable, you will realize your mistake after you had lost your valuable data, money or visitors. The first thing you need to decide is the right hosting plan for your requirements.

Different Web Hosting Services

Shared Hosting: Most common web hosting service available in the market is the shared hosting well known as conventional, regular, and normal hosting. Many recent online websites run on this hosting service. Being low cost and easily accessible hosting service, it is a service arrangement by which you can share disk space capacity, bandwidth, and various network resources with other subscribers. It is best suitable for individuals and small companies.

Dedicated Hosting: Dedicated hosting provides you with ultimate performance along with superior level of control and flexibility. Unlike the Shared hosting, the hardware is exclusive to your website needs. Through dedicated server plan, you are free to choose your own operating system, install your own software applications, and incorporate the security mechanisms you feel is the best. However, this one is not recommended for inexperienced users, as you may need to have certain skill set to maintain the server.

Virtual Private Server Hosting: VPS hosting or Virtual Private Server Hosting is an emerging technology in hosting industry which provides virtualization to the servers. With virtualization process, VPS results in a number of isolated environments with the ability to perform many of the same functions as an individual machine in a secured and cost effective manner. This is a plan which would come between Dedicated Hosting and Shared Hosting.

Reseller Hosting: A flourishing web hosing industry, Reseller Hosting emphasizes on providing opportunity to profit for entrepreneurs and small businesses aspirants. This allows you sell web hosting plans to customers and a reseller account that can run transparently enough to give you the presence of a large, established company. This plan would be ideal for those who have got some clients and wanted to manage their accounts separately or for those who are looking to establish a virtual webhosting company.

Managed/Un-Managed Hosting: You have then plan either to go for a managed hosting or un-managed hosting. Managed hosting services are mostly for the customers who are not technocrats in handling dedicated server or VPS and management aspects. If you are a developer who are good at Linux and Networking stuff, you can go for an un-managed service where you need to manage your server entirely.

With many web-hosting services available in the market, like my friend many others can be deceived by the false promises and cheap deals offered by the web-hosting providers. Here are few precautions for all those who do not want to be goofed up by the service providers, which are suggested to be considered whilst selecting a web-hosting provider.

Hosting charges – Web Hosting providers will normally range around $4.00 to $10.00 depending on a single domain hosting or a multiple domain-hosting plan. If a service provider offers a deal, which is much lower than these rates, there are chances that they are not quality service providers and hence there is a need to evaluate the security options that they provide. Better to go with an established hosting provider even the price is bit higher. If you are serious in business you need to spend!

Disk Space and Bandwidth – Always prefer a plan that offers you enough disk space and bandwidth in order to avoid being getting into trouble of paying more for over usage. Unlimited bandwidth is best one to choose from the plans available.

Customer Service – Before selecting a service provider ensure that it has a valid and working customer service number and a technical support number which are working. It is more preferable if these numbers are toll-free numbers. I also recommended you to contact the support for all your pre-sale questions. Do ask them all your technical doubts and see how well they are responding. The best way to check for the support of a webhosting company is to ask your friends who are already using their services.

Security – Double check the security that is offered by the hosting providers. Confirm with the sales or marketing people whether the service providers provides a regular backup of your websites including your databases and also confirm if they are maintaining these at the same servers or different servers located else where. Security is one of the main thing that you should keep in your mind while looking for a web hosting provider.

Hosting provider reviews – Before the final decision of selecting the web hosting service provides go through the reviews and critical aspects written by the earlier users and then evaluate your decision.

Hoping that all the above things will help you in choosing a good webhosting provider. Do let us know if you have more points.

I did lot of research in webhosting companies. I don’t had CC. And i was about to buy hosting from few indian hostings. Then i read lot of reviews online. And find some of them are not reliable. Right now i am using WHW from US which accepts indian currency. Some times i faced down time of few minutes. But i am quite satisfied with them.

I also found few of my friends account disabled because excessive RAM usage. If major player can do this anyone can do. My target is to achieve alexa 25,000 consistently by next year without social traffic and shift on VPS.

Well, I have faced more than 8 hosting providers so far from India and almost everyone is bad in their service. My current host is most perfect in their service and I do refer them to all even without any affiliates system.

Before committing with any web service provider you must first have a clear idea about your needs and requirements. Whether you are looking for a window based or non window based server that also must be chalked out.

I am in Linux based. At first i checked how much bandwidth and storage capacity i need. I read them some one says few hundred mbs of storage is enough. But i think few GB storage and 10-50 Gb of bandwidth will be enough. I already used 250 MB of data space and 5ooMB of bandwidth this month.

I was kicked out once from my hosting companies for taking up too much server resources, and its hard to argue when mostly we don’t read their signup agreements, we tend to think the term ‘unlimited space and unlimited bandwidth’ is something we could actually get
