It’s official. Yahoo will bring video chat to smartphones. David Katz, vice president of Yahoo Mobile, confirmed this in his latest interview to Reuters. The new version of the company’s Messenger app enabling cross-platform video chat for both Android devices and the iPhone is expected to work over both 3G and Wi-Fi connections. The app is currently under review for entry into the iTunes App Store. It’s likely to get a thumbs up, there’s no reason it shouldn’t.

Yahoo Video Chat For Android and iPhone Features

  • Video calls over Wi-fi and 3G
  • Video calls between Yahoo Messenger IM app for iPhone, Yahoo messaging client for Windows 7, Mac and other mobile platforms like Android.

For mobile video services including Qik, Fring and Tango, times ahead would be about stiffer competition.
