Google India in association with 3 Major digital music providers Saregama, In.com and Saavn has now launched a music portal “Google Music” that enables users to search and listen to the Bollywood songs and music albums. Google doesn’t host any of the music but offers the service to the users by streaming the songs online. This portal has a vast collection of both old and new songs.

As “Google Music” is a search engine, users can find any song of their interest just by specifying either the song title or the movie/album name of the song or the name of the actors who were part of the movie. The users may also query for “new songs” to search for the latest hits. When the user finds the desired song and clicks on it, a small window would pop up that enables live streaming of the song and therefore provides the audio to the user. There are no limits on the no of times the user can listen to the song. If the user wishes to listen to more songs from the artist then he can select the “More Music” link at the top right corner of the window which redirects to the partner site. Google probably makes revenue by displaying small banner ads in the player window.

The main pre-requisite for this service is to have a Flash Player installed in the user’s browser. Google Music India is a part of the Google Labs and it is still under experiment which now offers only Bollywood songs. We cannot even create a playlist, save them or share them we can just listen to them. Google Music with all these features can probably be expected in the near future.
