Video calling as a new trend for mobile communications is something that app developers are beginning to explore more seriously. We recently heard of Pinger bracing to offer free calls to your iPod Touch and iPhone. The latest app aimed at initiating mobile video chat is Tango. Available for free download from the Apple App Store and the Android Market, the app brings users free mobile video calls over 3G and Wi-Fi.

Tango App Features

  • Peer-to-peer (P2P) video-chatting application utilizins a phone’s front-facing and back-facing cameras
  • Free video calling to friends and family from any location
  • Tango is cross-platform, allowing calls between iPhone and other smartphones on 3G and Wi-fi
  • Populating Tango Contacts automatically from existing phone contact list
  • Inviting friends and others by e-mail or text
  • Switching cameras and swaping screens to show what is around you
  • Toggling between video to audio and back to video

How to set up Tango: A new profile is not required to create an account. Your phone number becomes your ID. The only other thing it requires is an e-mail ID, and the set up is complete. The app scans your phone address book at regular intervals and adds any Tango user it may detect in the address book.
