Microsoft Shuts Live Spaces; Ties Up With Automattic and Users To Migrate To WordPress

Microsoft has joined hands with Automattic, the parent company of the blogging platform WordPress, to migrate Live Spaces users to WordPress. This means will be the default blogging platform for Windows Live Spaces users.

WordPress developers are understood to be presently working with Microsoft to “create a simple migration service for Spaces bloggers to easily bring all their posts, comments, and photos to”. However, some users of Windows Space fear that losing the old Windows Space will be a heart-breaking process, and are wondering if there is any way to retrieve their old Space. Well, there is no way to reverse the process, and it looks like the move to will be permanent. Once migration begins, the old Windows Live Space will get redirected to WordPress.

WordPress has announced a six-month time frame in which Windows Live Spaces users will have the option to move their blogs to The publishing platform, WP, have created a new importer for Windows Live Spaces to New Windows Live users will also be offered a blog when they choose to create a new blog. WordPress will offer 3GB of free space for uploads on the platform. Additional space upgrades (5, 15, or 25GB additional space) may be purchased from WordPress.

Live Spaces to WordPress Migration
